CHINESE MEDICINE AND ACUPUNCTURE FOR HIGH FSH
What does high FSH mean?
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) is a hormone released by the pituitary gland. FSH stimulates the growth of follicles and the maturation of oocytes. The measurement of FSH levels assesses how well a woman's ovaries function, and is typically tested on day 2 or 3 of a menstrual cycle. If a woman's FSH levels are above what is expected at her age level, she is considered to have "High FSH".
A couple will be diagnosed unexplained infertility (UI) when they suffer from infertility that has undergone a diagnostic workup, and fail to explain the underlying cause for their condition. UI suggests that a clinical problem exists somewhere, however, the possible cause for this problem has remained undefined.
Given FSH's role in maturing eggs, do it mean that higher FSH is a good thing? It is not. High FSH, or elevated FSH, indicates low ovarian reserve. Women with high FSH have significantly lower pregnancy rates with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) , when compare with women with normal FSH levels.
It is important to keep in mind that FSH levels naturally increase, while AMH levels and AFCs decline as women age, meaning that a normal range for all of these measurements changes with age.
